Battle of Ideas 2016

Two days of high-profile, thought-provoking public debate.

9:30am, Saturday 22 October 2016, The Barbican, Silk St, London EC2Y 8DS

The annual Battle of Ideas festival, now in its twelfth year, is a weekend of debate initiated by the Institute of Ideas and organised with partners from the arts, academia, business, science and media.

Every year, hundreds of speakers from home and abroad, from all disciplines and viewpoints, along with over 2,500 vocal attendees, gather to ‘shape the future through debate’. This year’s festival will have sessions discussing the American elections, a State of the Nation strand of debates post-Brexit, the prospects for the world economy and internationally, plus discussions on the attempted coup in Turkey, the soft coup in Brazil, the collapse of the ANC in South Africa and the increasing tension in and about Eastern Europe.

And we’ll be debating so much more than that, from future visions of society, 500 years on from Thomas More’s Utopia, to the dismal, censorious state of our universities; from France today, in the wake of terrorist attacks and burkini bans, to the future of science and technology.

Early bird tickets are now available with substantial discounts. To find out more, visit the Battle of Ideas website.

And we also have satellite events happening across the UK and Europe. Find out more at the Battle of Ideas satellite events page.
