Realism on stage: the individual vs society
Discussion three in a series in the lead-up to Institute of Ideas Academy.
The Arts and Society Forum has organised a series of discussions, The Theatre and the Public, looking at the history of the theatre and its relationship to the public. The series reflects the themes in the Literature strand of lectures at the fifth Institute of Ideas Academy, a residential weekend of self-education and discussion from 18-20 July.
You are very welcome to attend even if you do not plan to come to the Academy. You do not need to commit to attending all the sessions.
In this session, David Bowden (Institute of Ideas special projects manager) and Anwar Oduro-Kwateng (Academy promotions manager) will introduce an exploration of realism in the theatre, focusing on Ibsen’s The Master Builder and Shaw’s Man and Superman. Other related texts are Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People and Shaw’s Major Barbara.
